Twin-screw extruder thermal flow CAE system
SCREWFLOW-MULTI
Features
SCREWFLOW-MULTI is a thermal flow analysis program capable of predicting the behavior of plastic inside a twin-screw extruder. SCREWFLOW-MULTI, based on multi-client architecture, was developed in a joint project between PLAMEDIA Corporation, which aims to be a leader in plastic CAE, and Rflow Co., Ltd., which has stellar reputation for its fluid analysis software, with the assistance of the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA).
3D thermal flow analysis of a single-screw or twin-screw extruder
SCREWFLOW-MULTI is capable of quantifying 3D unsteady thermal flow phenomena inside a single-screw or twin-screw extruder.
Integrated analysis covering the whole process, from solid conveying to 3D die extrusion
SCREWFLOW-MULTI's regions of analysis cover solid conveying, melting, melt conveying and 3D die zones of screw extruders. The program helps you to understand the behavior of plastic inside a screw extruder—which is difficult to observe in practice.
Specialized pre- and post-processors
SCREWFLOW-MULTI is capable of defining geometry, analyzing, and visualizing analytical results. Its special-purpose preprocessor, RPRE, defines the geometry of extruder components such as flights and barrels. Its special-purpose postprocessor, RPOST, visualizes the analytical results. SUNDYBASIC-MULTI stores commonly used screw geometries in its built-in database—saving considerable time in geometry modeling.
System configuration

SCREWFLOW-MULTI - Screw extruder thermal flow analysis
Twin-screw analysis
SCREWFLOW-MULTI performs 3D unsteady analysis of pressure, temperature, stress and viscosity in a (co-rotating or counter-rotating) twin-screw extruder.
Calculation results and measurement results are compared for rotation speed, extruded quantity and pressure.
Particle analysis by DEM

SCREWFLOW-MULTI uses the discrete element method (DEM) to evaluate the flow behavior of pellets in the solid conveying zone.

DEM is effective in the evaluation of the mixing and dispersion characteristics of plastic materials, and the visualization of flow. Functions to perform flow property analysis of fiber and talc, and functions to analyze melting are under development.

Single-screw analysis
SCREWFLOW-MULTI can also analyze flow in a single-screw extruder.
Calculation results and measurement results are compared for rotation speed, extruded quantity and pressure.
Screw geometry automatic definition
SCREWFLOW-MULTI has a function that automatically generates screw geometry, and can analyze using a combination of different types of elements.
Other analytical functions

Other functions include reaction analysis and the analyses of residence time distribution, mixing efficiency, and temperature history. A wide variety of functions enable SCREWFLOW-MULTI to make detailed evaluations of the flow pheno
