Cincinnati Extrusion
is one of the world's leading suppliers of extrusion equipment and systems for the
production of pipes, profiles, sheets and natural fibre products.
Cincinnati Extrusions guiding philosophy is designed to deliver the very best quality
and latest technology in all aspects of business to its customers, as well as a
commitment to continuous improvement of products, service, and the training and
knowledge of its employees, thus becoming the supplier of choice for the extrusion processing industry worldwide.
Foam core sheet offer a multitude of design and visual appearance options due to the smooth and hard surface of the sheet, which has basically the same properties as solid PVC sheet.
A wide and promising spectrum of applications exist for coextruded foam core sheet, in the furniture, construction and advertising industries.
The main advantage of co-extruding the rigid and foamed layer is the possibility to use optimised PVC formulations for both layers without sacrificing properties of the other. This results in considerable raw material cost savings.
*
Only the thin top and bottom layer need to be pigmented for different colours, or UV-stabilised for outdoor use
* The main foam core layer does not need higher levels of titanium dioxide or UV stabiliser
* Some calcium carbonate filler can be used; around 10 parts per hundred is the best compromise between lowering formulation cost and increasing density
In addition, regrind can be used in the middle layer, for foamed products with up to 20%. For high quality sheet, this regrind has to have consistent quality from known sources, usualy from in-house.
Coextrusion of PO Multi-layer Pipes
The coextrusion of multi-layer pipes is a technology which goes hand-in-hand with the trend to use raw materials in the most efficient way possible, and to recycle plastics wherever possible.In addition to the opportunity to profitably use in-house waste and sorted recycled materials and to employ cheaper formulations in general, innovative application-tailored products become possible for new products with unique performance characteristics.
With the modular tooling system, the following layer structures can be realised:
The above layer structures comprise practically all multi-layer product types which are found on the market.
In addition, up to five layers are possible using two tooling units arranged in tandem.
Coextrusion Tooling for Polyolefins
Cincinnati Extrusion has developed a special coextrusion pipe head which allows for a large variety of layer structures, and pipe diameters ranging from 25mm to 630mm.
The system offers the advantages of low cost and flexibility of layer structure, but certain flow channel design connected limitations exist regarding the layer thickness tolerances possible.
In view of this shortcoming, Cincinnati Extrusion developed a tooling system which is capable of meeting even the most stringent layer thickness accuracy requirements, by combining three helical distributors.
If U-PVC dry blend is used for the coating layer, a twin-screw extruder is best. As a rule, twin-screw extruders must be set up horizontally or nearly so, a requirement which is often in conflict with the limited floor space available. An ingenious way solution is the 'Spacesaver' coextruder, which is installed on a flat frame at an angle above the main extruder.
Coextruded foam core pipes
The use of foam core pipes for no-pressure applications such as sewage pipes, drain pipes and cable ducts has developed tremendously over the past few years. Diameters of 32 to 500 mm are currently available.

Proton - the single-screw extruders for all applications
An ever broadening spectrum of thermoplastics and applications calls for versatile processing machinery solutions.The new proton single-screw extruders from Cincinnati Extrusion match this essential requirement
There are four groups of machines in sizes from 45 to 150 mm diameter available:
* the grooved intake versions Proton-30 G for highest output.
* the smooth intake versions Proton-25 B for highest flexibility in application.
* the vented versions, with smooth or fine grooved intake Proton 30 V or Proton -33 FV.
* the profile extruders Alpha, 45 and 60 mm only.
The main features in common are:
* specialised screw designs for high output rates and homogeneity at low mass temperature.
* sturdy design with oversized gears and bearings.
* shortest construction with direct drive into the gear, situated under the barrel.
* precise barrel temperature control with APC, air power cooling.
PFT, Power Feed Technology makes the grooved versions so effective. An asymmetric feeding intake results in increased compression and filling factors.
Extruder versions: Application-tailored pipe, profile and sheet versions guarantee highest efficiency. Maximum output ranges from 50 kgs/hr to 1200 kgs/hr.
The conical twin-screw extruders with the unmatched processing range.
The latest innovations set new standards in terms of flexibility and efficiency.
* Flexibility
Lower and upper output limits of these machines embrace an unusual wide range. High flexibility is also offered with respect to raw material formulations. Optimal screw designs make use of the long residence time in the rear and the effective pressure build up in front.
*
High output capacity
Oversized, simple gears with large centre distance of the pinions ensure high torque and output. Sizes range from 35 to 92 mm with outputs from 60 and 1200 kg/h.
*
Screw designs with degressive and progressive lead changes, for most effective and gentle processing.
*
Small footprint: the motor is positioned under the barrel. This configuration makes the titan extruder extremely short.
Coextrusion Space saver versions of Titan 35 and 45 are also available.
*
High pressure applications: high back pressures are easily taken by the small output diameter in front and the large bearings in the back.
*
Screw core thermoregulation
Standard for all titan extruders is the maintenance-free CIMITHERM® screw core thermoregulation system. Active oil circulation screw core thermoregulation is available as an option.
*
Heat and shear sensitive materials are easily processed because of low friction.
* Extruder versions: pipe (R) and profile (P) versions of the titan extruders are available.
Fiberex® -Natural Fiber Extrusion
Natural fiber materials, primarily on a wood basis, are extruded together with thermoplastics. The Cincinnati Extrusion Fiberex®-concept allows up to 90% fiber content. The required end-product defines the best mix of material types and fiber share.
Today applications for extruded fiber profiles range from extremely stiff and water resistant construction profiles to substitutes for wood- MDF or particle board products.

Profile Extrusion
Cincinnati Extrusion offers complete systems for nearly all extrudable plastics and applications.
Two main types of applications can be distinguished:
* powder processing, mainly for PVC plus some specialities, uses twin screw extruders
* pellet processing, usually on single screw extruders.
The following tables give an overview of the applications, materials, extruders, and output ranges of the Cincinnati Extrusion profile program:

Pelletizing of U-PVC (rigid PVC) and PVC-P (plasticized PVC).
Pelletizing of both rigid and soft PVC is best done on counterrotating twin screw extruders. Since PVC is a shear sensitive material it needs less shear than other polymers. Counterrotating twin screws create low shear forces, just right for PVC formulations.Cincinnati Extrusion extruders spend less stabilizer and result in higher residual stabilityof the product.
The main applications for PVC pellets are: for rigid PVC (U-PVC):
* bottle blowing compounds
* injection molding grades
* profile extrusion on single screw extruders
* small pipe extrusion on single screw extruders
for soft PVC (PVC-P):
* injection molding grades
* shoe sole grades
* cable coating compounds
* extrusion of soft hoses on single screws
* extrusion of soft profiles (sealings) on single screws
In general all sizes of twin screw extruders can be used for pelletizing, with the right screws, according the plasticizing behavior of the dry blend.
Rigid PVC (U-PVC) is dose fed into the extruder, using the angular force feeders SDW 1 - SDW 3, allowing the maximum output rates.
The SDW force feeders transport the material to the barrel intake opening with a 30 degree inclination. They feed dry blend with a small amount of pressure increasing the throughput.
The output capacity for free flowing dry blend without filler can be enhanced by 5 percent, whereas the increase in output may be up to 25 % in case of material with poorer flowing behavior, compared with horizontal dose feeders.
Soft PVC (PVC-P) needs a crammer feeder to fill the extruder screws.
Electrically, pelletizing extruders are equipped with a lower of heating zones for the pelletizing head compared to profile and pipe extrusion.
Optional the control of the downstream can be added in the control cabinet.
