The Group's main activities are in the supply of food processing plant and equipment. Crisp bread, fine pasta, delicious chocolate, tasty breakfast cereals, snack foods and tortillas - consumers owe these and many other food products to a large extent to advanced Buhler know-how. For generations now, the Group has specialized in developing processes for cereal grains and oilseeds.
The main pillar of activities in this area is Grain Milling: A large part of all commercial grain milling capacity installed worldwide comes from Buhler. Specialty mills for processing oats, rice, legumes (pulses) and spices in addition to installations for processing soybeans give consideration to current trends in the area of nutrition. Many beer drinkers across the world owe their beverage to developments from the Buhler Brewing & Malting business unit. Buhler systems also produce animal feeds. Specialists in the Port Terminals and Storage Systems unit design and construct ship unloading and loading facilities as well as complete port terminals for bulk materials handling and storage.

In the field of Chemical Process Engineering, Buhler supplies extraordinary processes for making ordinary things: Thus, Buhler plants upgrade the plastic pellets used for making PET bottles. Printing inks for a multitude of applications are made on Buhler equipment, and the Group's conveying installations designed for handling a wide variety of materials simplify and streamline industrial processes.

For Buhler, die casting is the symbol of primal forces. The Group is a leading supplier of die casting systems. One of the hallmarks of these Buhler installations are their real-time control capabilities. New processes, lighter materials and a commitment to permanent innovation create the basis for developing new solutions: Thus, a process for making light-weight magnesium casings for cell-phone and laptop casings was recently developed in cooperation with renowned international customers. The newly opened Technology Center provides the ideal basis for developing additional innovations.

Buhler is the worldwide successful partner for engineering and building complete plants, systems and machines for thermal treatment of polymers.
The business unit Thermal Processes supplies customer-oriented continuous-operation systems for heating, cooling, crystallization, drying and solid-state polycondensation (SSP).
These systems are used for both mass-type and special polymers, as well as for recycled polymers. All systems can be operated with either flakes, pellets or powder.
Moreover, Buhler supplies systems for upgrading the post-consumer PET bottle flakes to PET bottle pellets that are suitable for direct food-contact applications.
Besides the engineering of new plants and systems, Buhler also offers services such as debottlenecking of existing systems, lab and pilot plant testing, plant design and joint process development.
