We're the plating experts.
For over 65 years Electro-Coatings, Inc. has provided Kanigen® electroless nickel chrome plating for a wide variety of sizes and shapes. Our three locations service companies throughout the U.S.A. as well as Canada and Mexico.
We service manufacturing, oil and aviation industries, paper and food products, chemical and pharmacuetical industries. Each location specializes in various processes and sizes of plating. We offer chrome plating, electroless nickel, passivating, plasma spray, HVOF, metal spray, and surface engineering.
Whatever your need or location, we've got you covered.
Electro-Coatings, Inc. offers a wide variety of coatings services, including electroless nickel, hard chrome, chromium, roll repair, hvof, plasma spray, abrasive coatings, and surface technology. We service a wide variety of industries, and continually strive to provide innovative solutions to meet today's low cost, high strength demands.
Electro-Coatings, Inc. is a diversified metal finishing company that was founded in 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. We quickly grew to be comprised of thirteen metal finishing plants, serving a large geographical area of the United States. In 1979 these individual plants were organized into the Electro-Coatings Division, providing its services to a broad spectrum of American industry.
Traditionally, metal finishing companies operate from one plant to provide local service to local industry but Electro-Coatings' philosophy was different. The founders recognized that the frequent exchange of information and resources could help in technological advancements. In fact, the frequent exchange of technology resulted in not only many advancements for the company, but the entire industry as well.
Electro-Coatings continues to provide a variety of services to companies in many different industries. One plant may specialize in making products more corrosion resistant before it is put into service. Another will make a production tool more serviceable for a longer period of time, and others recondition a worn component to bring it back to full production capacity.
In over 65 years, one thing has never changed. The people at Electro-Coatings, Inc. still strive to find the best solutions for your products. We continue to provide our customers with superior service to meet their coating needs on time and on budget. Even if it requires new science.

Accomplishments
As a company, Electro-Coatings, Inc. has played a key part in the development of the coatings industry. We continually scrutinize our systems, methods and materials to find new and better ways to make the most out of our materials. Our people are dedicated to top performance, and expect the same from the products we deliver.
In electrolytic deposition of chromium, Electro-Coatings developed and patented an improved version of a reversing switch which is particularly suited to the high current usage typically found in industrial hard chrome plating. It is now in general use in the chrome plating industry.
In 1976 the company patented and built a high speed plating machine that vastly improves the plating rate of chromium in cylinder bores.
In the area of autocatalytic (electroless) plating, the company has made significant contributions to the growth of the electroless nickel market. The first electroless nickel plant in Electro-Coatings began operations in 1956, and later the licensing rights, patents and technology were purchased from the developer. The Kanigen® process of electroless nickel is now licensed throughout the world, and the company itself is the largest commercial electroless nickel plater in the United States.
In 1975 Electro-Coatings introduced a new generation of electroless nickel plating by making possible the commercial use of composite coatings utilizing hard particles to vastly improve the coating's abrasion resistance. The nickel alloy composite with silicon carbide particles is marketed by Electro-Coatings under the trade name Nye-Carb,® and the process is licensed by EC Industries, Inc., for both captive and commercial installations.
Safety Procedures
Electro-Coatings, Inc. has implemented safety training programs throughout the company to educate our people thoroughly on the safest way of handling product materials. In addition, the company provides all factory workers with high-quality personal protective gear and the best available tooling, to ensure their safety and the superior quality of our plating products.
We employ special conservation techniques to decrease the volume of waste generated by our plating and manufacturing operations, and hire only those waste removal companies which actively engage in the recycling of waste products.
Electro-Coatings, Inc. is dedicated to being a responsible manufacturer, providing a quality product through safe and environmentally sound methods. We pledge to continue to seek ways of reducing waste, recycling waste material and improving our processes in order to help protect the planet and the people with whom we share it.

Targeting the railroad industry Electro-Coatings, Inc. offers its own special lubricant-retaining process in the chromium plating of the interior of diesel engine cylinder liners. The Channelchromium® process provides improved surface lubricity and oil retention that is essential in reducing piston ring wear and increasing the length of trouble free operation of the cylinder liners.
Truck engines and industrial diesel engines are also suitable for this metal finishing service.

Oil Field
Nye-Croloy® nickel/chrome coating (a corrosion resistant barrier of electroless nickel under a hard layer of chrome) makes the Nye-Croloy® coating especially beneficial to pumping and drilling equipment that operates in highly corrosive atmospheres. The Nye-Croloy® coating was introduced by Electro-Coatings primarily as a service to the oil tool industry in sour gas well operations. It also has applications in hydraulic shafting, printing cylinders and actuator cylinders, among others.
Steel Mills
The steel industry is a major user of electroplated rolls, an example being the deflector roll used in a tin or chromium plating line. The reconditioning of worn or damaged conductor rolls requires many of Electro-Coatings' employees' machining skills as well as the knowledge of specialists who are familiar with the construction details and performance of mill rolls.
Paper Products
Whether you want spares or repairs, Electro-Coatings, Inc.'s facilities include modern high-speed machine tools for efficient, precision manufacturing of basic rolls for a wide range of industries: paper boxes, lithography, offset printing, wallpaper, and cartons, to name a few.
All rolls will eventually show wear to the point that they must be replaced or reconditioned. The increased use of recycled paper has aggravated these wear problems, especially in regard to corrugated paper manufacturing. Reconditioning is the best solution, since it much more cost-effective than a replacement roll, and usually requires less time (sometimes as little as two days). In many cases, reconditioning has shown to make the surface of the roll last longer.
