Garland Manufacturing produces GAR-DUR brand UHMW Polyethylene in rod stock from 1/2" to 8" Diameters. This material is frequently used in the production of timing screws for conveyor and bottling applications, and feed screws for tube and augur conveyors. GAR-DUR® plastic parts are made from ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) polymer having a molecular weight of 4.2 million and greater. Garland Manufacturing Company has been processing UHMW resin for over 45 years. This true UHMW polymer is excellent for resisting abrasion and corrosion while contributing a low coefficient of friction.

Fabricated Gar-Dur® parts have helped companies improve performance, reduce downtime, eliminate the need for lubrication, replace steel parts and lower their operating costs.

APPLICATIONS
GAR-DUR® machined parts are being used in mining, pulp and paper operations, refrigeration, chemical plants, material handling industries, and automotive assembly plants to name just a few. In fact, if you have metal parts that should be replaced with non-corroding, quite, longer-lasting parts, Garland can probably custom-machine them for you.

MANY ADVANTAGES
GAR-DUR® is designed to function in corrosive and chemical environments, in extreme cold and where abrasion resistance is a desirable factor. It is durable, has a very low coefficient of friction and high impact resistance, it is much quieter than metals, and it won't absorb fluids.

EXAMPLES
Wastewater. The Coney Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in New York uses GAR-DUR® materials for wear rails, wear shoes, scraper blades, and sprockets. In this harsh environment, this special UHMW polymer doesn't need to be replaced as often, doesn't absorb fluids, and won't allow sludge to adhere to its surfaces. It keeps the machinery working smoothly without lubrication and without the major amounts of downtime experience when metal parts were in use.

Material Handling Machinery and Systems. Low friction, noise abatement, energy savings and reduced maintenance are some of the reasons GAR-DUR® parts are used in automated and non-automated materials handling equipment and systems.

General Machine USE. Self-lubrication, wear resistance and noise and shock suppression are the principal reasons that UHMW polymer parts are used extensively in machining designs.

Other Applications: Bushings * Cams and Followers * Feedscrews * Gears * Idlers * Pulleys * Rotating Bearings and Seals * Sliding Bearings * Sprockets * Wheels * Many others.

GAR-DUR® plastic extrusions are made from ultra high molecular weight polymer having a molecular weight of 4.2 million and greater. This true UHMWP has been resisting abrasion and corrosion while contributing a low coefficient of friction since the mid-1950's.

GAR-DUR® extrusions have been used successfully for years in snowmobile drive suspension systems. When a material can take this grueling operation of handling friction and grit, in sub-zero temperatures, it must be tough. Since it has been successful in this application, other material handling applications are a simple task for this polymer.

ADVANTAGES
GAR-DUR® fights abrasion and corrosion while contributing a low coefficient of friction. It weights 1/7 the weight of steel, 1/3 the weight of aluminum, and outwears abrasion-resistant steel 3 to 1. The coefficient of friction is 0.14 or lower and the material does not require lubrication.

APPLICATIONS
It is presently used in the material handling industry, as component parts in conveyor lines in the automotive industry, lumbering, food/beverage packaging, and other industries which require a tough, wear-resistant material. GAR-DUR® is tough and is processed in specially designed equipment using precision engineered dies. Design and construction of these dies warrants volume to justify their costs.

Extruded lengths can be cut into shorter lengths and made in fabricated parts such as wear shoes, bearing blocks, sleeved bearing and thousands of other wear-resistant products.

STOCK SHAPES
GAR-DUR® is the industry leader in stock shapes. In addition to custom-made parts, many stock shapes are also available in a variety of sizes; boards, bars, angles, rod, sheet stock. Rod stock up to 8" diameter, tube stock up to 6 1/2" diameter, boards and bars 10 feet and longer.

CUSTOM SHAPES
GAR-DUR® extruded shapes can be custom made to the customer's specifications. They can be fabricated into many parts for the aerospace and robotics industries, wastewater treatment plants, conveyor operations, and thousands of other applications. Custom shapes are constantly being developed to meet the specific needs of Garland customers. To save costs, prototype profiles are engineered for testing purposes before a proprietary die is built for production. Virtually any extruded or machined part can be tailor-made for customers.

Stop wasting Time and Money on UHMW sheets!

* Tight Thickness Tolerances
* Apply in minutes instead of hours
* No more drilling and bolting
* No more seams

1/4 the amount of material needed to do the same job. Think about the savings!

Continuous UHMW Wear Strip & Pressure Sensitive Wear Tapes

* Thickness Gauges - .003" to .125"
* Widths - Custom Slit 1/4" to 18"
* Rolls Lengths - 50 ft. or 100 ft. (longer lengths available)
* Colors - Natural & Black-Static Conductive
* Thickness Tolerance ± 10%
* Width Tolerance ± 1/32 (special tolerance per request)

We process and treat the UHMW so it can be bonded to a pressure sensitive, adhesive backing. This eliminates the need to mechanically fasten and reduces waste. Since countersinking 1/4" sheet only provides a 1/16" usable wear surface, this same goal can be achieved by using a 1/16" UHMW with the pressure sensitive backing.

Skived UHMW film and Pressure Sensitive Tapes
Thickness gauges: .003", .005", .007", .010", .013", .015", .020"

UHMW Wear Strips and PSA Tapes
Thickness gauges: .030", .040", .050", .060", .070", .080", .090", .100", .125"
(Special gauges and tolerances available per request)

* Continuous extruding allows for longer rolls for easier handling when machining parts, cutting pieces and for little or no seams in glide rails and conveyor systems.
* Rolls slit to width for a better material yield to eliminate waste.

Pressure Sensitive Tapes for applications where mechanical fastening is not practical or for less labor-intensive installation

* Standard 5 mil rubber-based adhesive with an excellent combination of high tack and good peel strength compared to other adhesives on the market
* Acrylic adhesive available for applications with higher temperatures; also for better chemical and UV resistance

Treated for Bonding Material that is etched and oxidized to accept contact cement or epoxies for permanent adhesion.
