Almatis' history dates back to 1910, when its former parent Alcoa first sold calcined alumina. Since its inception in 2004, Almatis has successfully expanded globally, fueled by investments in manufacturing, technology innovation, customer-focus and its premium philosophy.

With its high quality alumina materials—including tabular alumina, calcined and reactive alumina, calcium aluminate cements and binders, dispersing aluminas, sintered magnesia and alumina spinels, fine precipitated hydrates, ultra white hydrates and ground Bayer hydrates—the company offers the broadest product portfolio in the market and a “one-stop-shop” for its customers. Almatis' long-term supply contract for alumina feedstock allows it to grow with its customers. Almatis expands production to match market need, ensuring secure supply, short lead times and efficient delivery.

Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, Almatis has nine wholly owned and strategically located production facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, India, China and the United States. As an alumina specialist, Almatis invests continuously in the business to expand capacities in order to secure the supply of high quality specialty aluminas. In China alone the company has recently invested US$18 million from 2005 to 2007 in a fully integrated tabular alumina plant and is going to invest another US$50 million for a new calcined alumina plant till 2010.
