Columbian TecTank’s history is deeply rooted in past success of several very important steel tank companies here in the United States. We are proud of our tradition of delivering the best quality storage solutions for our customer’s needs.

Columbian Steel Tank Company was founded in 1893 in Kansas City, Missouri as a fabricator of livestock watering tanks. Columbian was the first company to design and manufacture bolted steel tanks with the American Petroleum Institute (API) monogram beginning in 1929. In 1977, Trico Industries acquired Columbian because of its market leading position manufacturing API type tanks for the petroleum industry. Columbian operated as a subsidiary of Trico until 1990 when the parent company decided to sell the business to management.

Another company by the name of BS&B was formed in 1920 as a bolted storage tank manufacturer. That company was eventually renamed Peabody TecTank and added factory-welded tanks and silos to its product line. A.O. Smith Harvestore Products, Inc. bought Peabody TecTank in 1995. Peabody TecTank and the Harvestore Products group were merged in 1997 to form the new A.O. Smith division called Engineered Storage Products.

Columbian Steel Tank Company acquired Engineered Storage Products in 2001 and CST Industries, Inc. was established as the parent company. Peabody TecTank was combined with Columbian Steel Tank Company and formed what is now today Columbian TecTank.

Columbian TecTank is to date the largest division of CST Industries, Inc. and a recognized leader in bolted steel storage tank technology. Our performance has been proven in the field for over 100 years in thousands of applications in over 125 countries.
