On June 24, 1885, Detroit Edge Tool Works was incorporated in the state of Michigan, and is now the oldest machine knife manufacturer in the world. The original company manufactured precision machine knives, originally for lumber and woodworking then later for the metal working industry. As times changed after Word War II, the company began to manufacture machine tool components such as hardened and ground, precision detachable ways and rails. These products are both flame hardened, then precision ground.

In 2005, following in their fathers' (Pete Ebbing) footsteps, Ray (President) and John (Vice-President) have taken the company in a broad area of diversification with involvement in various aspects of the metal cutting blade product line. Jerry Madynski, Vice-President Sales, spearheads this effort.

The Roseville Michigan operation with 60,000 square foot of manufacturing capacity is dedicated to providing metal cutting and textile knives to industries all around the globe.

Whether the global demand be precision components for machine tools, or blades for cutting hot billets at mills, DETCO has met customer requirements for over 123 years as a leader in the industry.

Continuously re-investing in the business, DETCO boasts its reputation as the finest surface grinding facility in the country.

State of the art CNC Grinders with capacities of five meters length and tolerances of five microns allow DETCO to tackle projects their competitors shy away from considering.

Large traveling column CNC Milling Machines, (with up to eight meter length capacity) allow DETCO to take on entire projects as a one stop shop for their customers.

Detroit Edge Tool Company with its dedicated leadership and loyal long time employees is strategically positioned to continue serving their wide customer base with innovative technologies and old fashioned "Know-How" for decades into the future.
