NFM IDDON manufactures a wide range of processing machinery and systems including Extruders, Mills, Calenders and ancillary equipment. The orginal company was established in 1885.
NFM IDDON is a wholly owned subsidary of NFM/Welding Engineers Inc. of Massillon Ohio, USA. NFM owns the assests of the operating division formally, NFM Feedscrew Division and Monsanto Extruder Division.
NFM/Welding Engineers has for many years been a manufacturer and supplier of extruders, presses and component parts to the leading Rubber and Plastic manufactures in North America. In particular they have a first class specialised manufacturing facility, which includes state of the art hard-facing applications and heat treatment.
In addition to new machinery, the Company also provides a full after-market support programme which includes spare parts, repairs and technical service for all makes of Extruders, Mills, Calenders and Tyre Curing Presses.
Given the Companies long history and expertise covering most aspects of polymer processing, we are confident we are ideally placed to service our customers needs world wide for replacement part through fully integrated turnkey projects.
We are making Machinery that makes the world move. At NFM/WE, Inc. , we manufacture and rebuild a comprehensive line of equipment aimed at production and research in the rubber and plastics industries. So whether you need a new counter-rotating twinscrew extruder (for example), or just replacement parts for one, we have a complete manufacturing environment that can accomplish the task.

The NFM/Welding Engineers' TEM Series* co-rotating, intermeshing twin-screw line offers the highest torque-per-free-volume and the highest screw speed of any of the major twin screw competitors. Manufactured in North America, it is avaialble in 41mm, 48mm, 58mm, 75mm, 93mm, 104mm and 136mm models. The TEM Series has evolved into one of the most innovative, productive compounders, ensuring uniform dispersion. The increased torque of the patented redesigned gearbox with high screw-free-volume assures high quality production at a low resin temperature. Production cost are lower as a result of TEM Series compounders' easy operation and simplified maintenance.
FEATURES
* Higher Torque: The TEM Series provides 15% higher torque-per-free-volume than its major competitor. The higher torque enables the extruder to produce more horsepower, which in turn creates higher throughput rates. Higher torque also assures higher filling of the screw flights lowering the overall average shear rate and in turn, the final melt temperature.
* High Screw Speed: The higher torque-per-free-volume allows for a lower melt temperature and the capability to run at higher speeds. The higher screw speed increases power input and production rates nearly linearly. The shorter time reduces the heat history on the product.
* Compact Design: The closed-looped Barrel Cooling System is mounted on the same base as the compounding extruder, creating a compact design. The redesigned patented gearbox is more powerful and compact in its configuration creating a smaller machine footprint.
* Enhanced Performance: By increasing the torque and speed, the machine efficiencies are increased, allowing more material to be processed at a higher product quality. These efficiencies also save energy by lowering specific engery (kwh/hg).
* Upgraded Package Control: Standard PLC control packages include a Graphic Machine to Man interface with a (PC) interface ethernet link. This system enables precise monitoring and variable adjustment by the operator.
* Ease of Maintenance: The TEM Series provides the structural and functional design for total ease of operation. From the patented high torque gearbox, through features such as unique vent ports and Quick Clamp Die head design, the TEM Series provides for less contamination and maintenance while maintaining smooth flow of material.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
* QUICK CLAMP DIE: Designed to significantly reduce machine downtime, the NFM/Welding Engineers' Quick Clamp Die eliminates the timely changing of the breaker plate and screen. The Quick Clamp Die incorporates a manual or hydraulic cylinder to quickly and easily access the die area instead of the conventional models that use numerous bolts. The Quick Clamp Die is custom-dsigned for each specific processing equipment.
* SIDE FEED DESIGN: NFM/Welding Engineers has a standard line of side-feeders for every TEM Series model as well. Using a new design, these high-speed, high free-volume feeders enable you to maximize processing throughput. Complete with casters, these feeders can easily be moved and stored when not in use.
KEY DESIGN ELEMENTS
* BARRELS: (Wear Protected) Standard TEM Series' barrels are made using a carbide lining (or alternate 10V liners) for wear resistance. The barrel design, when combined the use of screws made from wear-resistant steel alloys, produces an overall endurance of the machine which is vastly improved compared to conventional-type machines.
Barrel configurations include:
* Feed Barrels
* Vent Barrel
* Closed Barrels
* Side-feed Barrel
* SCREWS: Backed by years of hands-on experience, NFM/Welding Engineers produces a wide range of self-wiping, twin-screw designs for every processing application. Built with involute spline shafts, our screws offer strength for super-high torque transmission. Wear-protected with crucible 9V material (with an option of a 10V soft core), these screws are wear resistant and capable of handling the most demanding processing environments.
Proprietary Process Expertise: Hot Melt Adhesive Compounding Extruder
Continuous twin-screw mixing enhances the quality of hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesives.
As environmental regulations continue to mount, more and more pressure-sensitive adhesive users are switching from solvent based to hot melt systems. By making this change, many are finding they can compound their own materials, offering them significant cost savings.
In fact, it is possible to save up to 1/3 the cost of the adhesive by compounding on a NFM/Welding Engineers' Twin Screw Extruder.
This savings is achieved through the twin screw mixing process, which offers a higher melt quality and process control than can be achieved in a single screw process.
NFM/Welding Engineers has further refined this design to provide:
* Compounding Flexibility:
NFM/WE's counter-rotating, tangential screw design provides thorough mixing resins with a wide range of viscosities and melting temperatures. This design generates high shear without high temperature to protect heat sensitive resins.
* Multi-Stage Feed::
NFM/WE's multi-stage feed design eliminates the need for pre-blending, while assuring uniform fluxing of high-melt viscosity polymers. These polymers are introduced first and extruded into a uniform state by the twin-screw action. The low-viscosity materials, which can be pre-melted if desired, are added using the multi-stage feed. In the final stage, oil is injected into the barrel of the compounder. The continuous compounding action of the twin-screw mixing process improves quality control and produces a uniform hot-melt adhesive.
* Short Resident Time:
Twin-screw mixing virtually eliminates the crosslinking of polymers that occurs during batch processing when high temperatures are maintained over extended periods. Residence time is often no longer than 15 seconds.
* Low Operating Cost:
NFM/WE's Hot Melt Adhesive Compounding Extruders are not labor intensive and utilize adiabatic extrusion for minimum energy cost per pound of product. Four models are available - with 2", 2.8" 3.5" and 4.5" screw diameters - so you can select the size best suited to your specific operating requirements.
