Patented Technology

Filtertek's ingenuity is reflected in a world-wide portfolio of over 340 issued patents and pending applications. Filtertek's patented technology includes novel designs for fuel filters, transmission sump filters, semi-solid product dispensers, check valves, I.V. filters, and needleless access devices. Two notable examples of Filtertek's creativity are:

Filtertek pioneered the design for an all-plastic transmission sump filter, an advancement that changed the automotive landscape and now is incorporated into countless vehicles worldwide. The switch to an all-plastic design brought immense advantage to the vehicle manufacturers through weight savings, improved product durability, and flexibility in design. Helping to protect our world, the all-plastic filter has an equally important benefit in that the product is completely recyclable.

Needleless Access Devices


In a clinical setting, needle stick injuries may result in the transmission of potentially fatal diseases. Hospitals and other medical care providers are constantly working to reduce or eliminate the incidence of needle stick injuries. To assist in this worthy effort, Filtertek developed a patented luer activated valve, also known as a needleless access device, for use in I.V. administration sets and drug transfer applications. This valve design incorporates a top wiper seal that prevents bacterial ingress and presents a flat, swabbable surface for the clinician's use when accessing to the set.



Medical Check Valves


For more than 15 years, Filtertek has been involved in the development and manufacture of Check Valves that are used in Medical Applications.

Following some serious incidents of incorrect amounts of prescribed solutions being infused into critically ill patients, it became very apparent that there was a void in the Check Valve market for a suitable product to prevent such occurrences. The market requirement was for a reliable low opening /cracking pressure check valve with zero backflow on a dual I.V. infusion set under gravity and pump feed. As the application was very demanding, no check valve manufacturer in the industry had produced a satisfactory valve.

Filtertek, having recognized the market requirement for a cost effective solution, invented a suitable check valve that would exceed the requirements that had been set out by the market. Such was the innovation in Filtertek’s invention that the Company was shortlisted for a National Innovation Award for new products.
