Understanding the Extrusion Process
Bailey extruders open up entirely new possibilities in clay construction that were never before possible. The extruder can be used to produce tile, moldings, handles, sculptural and utilitarian forms, 3-dimensional tile, modular construction and much more. Many complex forms can be extruded that would not be possible in any other process. Also, extruded forms have no seams! As a result, forms are stronger and require only a fraction of the time to assemble. Only Bailey equipment gives you a completely balanced selection of extruders, dies, and accessories to choose from.
Bailey extruders come in two groups: the Standard Extruders and the System Extruders. The Standard Extruders are economical extruders that do not have interchangeable barrels. The System Extruders provide maximum versatility of the entire extruding range through the use of interchangeable barrels on a common drive frame.
If you are intending to extrude large scale forms, we firmly suggest that you purchase the Cutting/Removal Fixture. This fixture (pictured in the photo on the left) provides the necessary function of cutting extrusions squarely and removing them efficiently.

Standard Extruders
The Standard Extruders are available in three sizes. All units have a welded steel unibody construction. Barrels are not interchangeable on Standard Extruders. The Standard Extruders are an excellent starting point for potters or schools exploring the extruder medium for the first time.
Exclusive Features
1. The plunger Safety Stop prevents the plunger from damaging the internal tube die bracing.
2. The plunger plate is 1/2 thick to provide the tightest possible clay seal.
The top of the barrel is tapered to provide the easiest possible plunger alignment.
3. The barrel is square (instead of round) to allow greater flexibility in the size and shape of the. extruded form. Square barrels are easier to clean.
The Bailey Die Mount is easy to use and very sturdy. Solid die shapes can be inserted without removing the mount. Changing dies has never been so simple or reliable.

Brent Handextruder
A small sturdy extruder well-suited to making handles and other add-ons for wheelthrown and hand-built work. The Bailey Extruder System
The Bailey Extruding System is designed to offer easy extruding for both large and small scale forms. The system concept refers to the fact that a series of different barrels will fit into a common drive frame. Each barrel is designed to cover a specific extrusion range, For instance, the 4 barrel will comfortably extrude small forms (such as handles, etc.), the 5 barrel will comfortably extrude medium size forms, the 9 barrel will comfortably extrude large tube forms, and the tile barrel will comfortably extrude both tiles and narrow rectangular shapes. This overlapping system approach reduces the overall cost for equipment since only one drive frame is required to plunge all system barrels. Putting Your System Together
1. Decide on either the Manual or Power Drive Frame
2. Decide on which barrels you need. Review the extrusion range of each individual barrel. (We recommend the 4 & 9 system barrels).
3. If you are doing large scale tubes, select the appropriate Cutting/Removing Fixture.
4. Select the appropriate Die Kits or individual dies. We recommend the die kits for any school or beginning potter.
NOTE: Not all clay bodies are suitable for extruding.

Both Drive Frames come supplied with (2) lag bolts to mount the unit to any suitable wood beam or wall stud. All barrels and dies are ordered separately.
System 1 Manual Drive Frame
The System 1 is a hand powered drive frame. The heavy duty hand lever has been designed to provide maximum leverage for easy extruding. The entire plunging assembly pivots to the side to provide ample clearance for loading the barrel with clay. A plunger safety stop protects the tube brace from being accidentally rammed by the plunger.
Mounting: The System 1 will mount to any structural wall, or the Cutting/Removal Bracket. The Cutting/Removal Stand cannot be used.

System 3 Power Drive Frame
This drive frame is the ultimate method of extruding clay. Power drive allows the operator the greatest amount of control in forming a shape. The barrel can be instantly reloaded in a matter of seconds. The System 3 provides a constant uninterrupted flow of clay for the entire plunge of the barrel. Both hands are always free to control the form. The System 3 is powered by air, and requires an air compressor that will deliver an air supply of 85 to 110 psi. The air flow is controlled by a foot pedal. This unit comes complete with pressure regulator, moisture trap, pressure gauge, and foot pedal.
Mounting: System 3 can be mounted to any structural wall or the Cutting/Removal Wall Bracket or Stand.

Cutting/Removal Fixtures
The Cutting/Removal Fixtures (Wall Bracket and Mobile Floor Stand) are extremely valuable components in completing the large scale extrusion process. The function of these fixtures is to cut and remove large scale extrusions accurately and effectively.
How It Works
The extruder, the cutting guide, and the parting platform mount on the central tracking pole. You start by adjusting the extruder to a comfortable height. Next you position the cutting guide approximately 6 below the die plate. Next you place a bat on top of the parting platform. The first section of extrusion is trimmed at the cutting guide to provide a square base. The extrusion is continued down until it touches the bat. A cut is then made at the cutting guide. At this point, the parting platform is pivoted to a lower position to provide a gap between the upper and lower extrusion. The finished form can now be removed without obstruction.
The Cutting/Removal Wall Bracket can be used with any of the extruders. The Cutting/Removal Mobile Floor Stand can only be used with the System 3 extruder. 28" Wide X 28" Deep X 85" High.
